Why You Need a Thermo-Rite Fireplace Door

An open fireplace or one with just a screen could be costing you money. Entropy is inescapable: Heat moves from areas of high concentration (hot areas) to areas of low concentration (cold areas). An open fireplace even with a closed flue is sucking heat out of your home.

These are infrared pictures of a fireplace opening. The temperature readout on the fireplaces with doors can be double that of those without.

How to Measure Your Fireplace

Here are the basic steps to get your dealer all the information they need to start.

Fireplace Opening Dimensions -

This is just the basic opening size of your fireplace that lets us know what size to make your door.

  1. Measure your Top Opening Width
  2. Measure your Bottom Opening Width
  3. Measure your Left Side Height
  4. Measure your Right Side Height

Surround Dimensions -

The “surround” is anything that sticks out around the fireplace cavity itself that could interfere with the fireplace door overlap.

  1. Measure from the Top Opening upwards
  2. Measure your Left Side Opening to the left
  3. Measure your Right Side Opening To the right

Height to Lintel -

We measure this to make sure our interior fitting doors and installation hardware will work in your fireplace.

  1. Locate the lintel (Not all fireplaces have one. If yours doesn’t that is OK. You can skip this section).
  2. Measure from the front of the lintel to the fireplace front.
  3. Measure from the brick to the hearth floor.
